Adventist Church in Göttingen Calls on German Congregations to Support their Unions

The Adventist Church in Göttingen, Germany is circulating a petition calling on German congregations to support the German Unions at the upcoming Annual Council in October. Last week, the North German Union and South German Union presidents issued a joint statement denouncing the General Conference’s latest compliance documents and creation of five compliance committees.

Thank God for an independent Spectrum, which provided the news in advance about the G.C.'s latest compliance documents to the German field.

Perhaps more unions should call for signatures and petitions to be funneled to their union presidents so the GC Executive Committee can hear from the constituents.

Can’t someone in the Adventist Church or any among the Norh America Union Conferences or Unions circulate the same open e-letter for signatures!?

Once again the laity is showing more concern for the denomination and more integrity to the cause of Christ than are the highest leadership of the church.

There are at least three ways to vote. A drown out voice vote a la S A, a vote with the feet and a vote with the tithe. I suggest the tithe vote is most effective. keep the tithe at the conference and union levels. Why send money to those who would at least attempt to embarrass local leaders who don’t conform to some hair brained perfectionism gone wide.

Kudos to the Gottingen Church, in Germany.

There is no mention of the size of this congregation, but having travelled widely in Europe, I would estimate that the membership is small in number.
Gottingen itself, only has a population of 120,000.

My Portland, Oregon home, has three enormous Adventist congregations within forty minutes drive of my dwelling, plus many midsize ones of 200-500 members.

SUNNYSIDE PORTLAND, SDA CHURCH. 1200 members
MEADOWGLADE, BATTLEGROUND WA church 1600 members
VANCOUVER WA COMMUNITY CHURCH 800 members

The Pacific Northwest, especially Portland, is one of the most progressive, egalitarian, politically correct, urban areas of the world.

How come these major Adventist congregations, all huge tithe generators, are not issuing statements in support of women’s rights (the WO issue is really about equality and women’s rights).??

Our colleges and universities are under the umbrella of their local administrative bodies, and therefore lack some political independence.

But surely the CHURCHES on our institutional campuses are independent entities, and can and should be issuing similar statements

Why are they not??

Any small SDA group, like Gottingen, can and should issue a statement.

COLLECTIVELY, these church bodies surely can have some impressive
impact on this major issue confronting Adventism.

LET OUR VOICES BE HEARD !!

Model of common circular letter from Göttingen and Basel

The size of a congregation doesn’t matter. The common initiative of Göttingen and Basel (a center of early Adventism in Euope; E.G. White, J.N. Andrews [buried here]) is the proof. The dramatic lay protest goes now to many European local congregations, and some overseas churches. Please support this campaign!
