I don’t think that is his preference.
This authoritarian, might is right, approach to religion is it’s achilles heel. Ironically it conflicts with all of the Pauline teachings on the priesthood of the individual and the universal acceptance of Gods grace.
Dysfunctional families seek to control the behavior it members and measure their success on compliance.
Dysfunctional churches seek to control the behavior of its members and measure their success on compliance.
Yes, this is the measure of a successful authoritarian administration. Being “in line” with dear leaders with a sweet spirit. And attempting to harvest millions to join? People across the world are risking everything to get to countries of freedom, democracies. They are leaving authoritarianism.
Yes we are a family… Jesus taught us to pray “Our Father”. Denominationalism is an intrusion that becomes a barrier to the family circle. The more exclusive the more alien to Christ’s mission. With God there is no cast system., Ted Wilson is a modern day Cotton Mather. Just a step away from calling women witches.,
What a wonderful article! Well stated, and logical. I am repulsed by this video which seems flatly dishonest and is cult-like. It seems the church is trying to push me and others who are ‘woke’ right out the door.
Yes! Ephesians 4:
4 As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
So, per the bible, there is one faith all Christians belong to. Given the diversity of believers in this one faith, is it impossible we could all agree on anything. So, we cannot have uniformity in belief, but are admonished to create and maintain unity. Not the same thing.
I could never understand why my grandmother was so racist, because she was black. Then I learnt if you teach people a lie, and you repeat it continually, then they believe it. So there are those who have bee taught over the decades that women are inferior, black people are inferior, which lands us with " lay people being classed as inferior.
Reports I hear indicate that Wilson is calling on another shabby manipulation:
The phrase “tyranny of the majority” (or “tyranny of the masses”) …a scenario in which decisions made by a majority place its interests above those of an individual or minority group, constituting active oppression comparable to that of a tyrant or despot. (Tyranny of the majority - Wikipedia)
Lack of female proponents speaking out here—One of the strongest arguments in favor, in my opinion, of ordaining them—they AREN’T pushing for it here. They’re just trying to follow THEIR Leader, whether it’s through valleys of despair or over peaks of exhilarating satisfaction of fulfillment. Bless’em.
Don’t forget this 2015 one:
"Lack of female proponents speaking out here—One of the strongest arguments in favor, in my opinion, of ordaining them—they AREN’T pushing for it here."
There are several of us regular female commenters on this site…Adventism is a Patriarchal religion and does not promote women to top positions of influence or encourage such. If they did…you would see more female participation on this site. Adventist women have been historically taught to not be in the forefront and to be “helpers” this does not encourage women to speak out- quite the opposite.
Religious Telenovela…with the same type of background music.
After years of fighting for equality, women were guaranteed the right to vote in 1920 in the 19th Amendment.
What is amazing to us today–is that women would have to even fight for the right to vote. It seem this is a given fact. We would NEVER have a discussion about WO in 1900, since women could not even vote. The first woman elected to the Senate was Hattie Caraway from Arkansas in 1932. Before that men ruled in government. Men still rule in the ranks of ordained ministry by GC demand (this seems a little outdated, doesn’t it?)
I feel this video is choreographed and scripted. There are no names of the individuals presented, leading to the possible conclusion they are employees or paid for their services. It tells me that I should submit my conscience to the church (not the Lord or Scripture), which is very dangerous. The short bullet points often repeated does not lent to further discussion. Their conclusion is final, as if no other opinion matters. It is not a balanced presentation giving room for disagreement with an open door for resolution.
And conscripting children as a propaganda vehicle is shameless.
Women do speak, unfortunately they are not permitted to air the views in the same medium as their male counterparts. They are limited in their ability to develop hence some find other activities to focus their energies, it is not that they hate God, it is that they hate what men has made God into.
One of the difficulties is seeing error, is when people believe that they own the truth, they focus on the ownership, and forget that God cannot be owned or coerced.
Women are both. Not encouraged to speak out their ideas. Not given the opportunity
to speak to the masses [like men are].
AND as we have seen in this video LITTLE GIRLS are TAUGHT what they can and
cannot do in life – and given Bible as the standard. How can they go against God??
They are STUCK!!
The real (“VERY, VERY fascinating”) issue is not a fight between men and men, but rather between discriminators and non-discriminators. There is a big difference.
No! Nobody should walk away. They should stay and work toward the goal of cleansing the Church from discrimination, eliminating the headship heresy.
I wonder if such a statement could be substantiated with facts. I haven;t seen this happening at all. Let’s not forget that women have been conditioned to stay quiet and accept whatever decisions men made. What is happening now is that men who do not discriminate are fighting those other men from the tribe “The Discriminators.” Thus trying to expunge this shameful practice that is still promoted/supported by the GC.
“Are We Family?”
No, we are not family. We are CHURCH.
The video clearly explores some psychological (emotional) tricks to brainwash the audience. Shame on the GC. Shame on those who produced it, because it’s full of errors and misleading statements.
Well stated, Carlo…our voices are muted or silenced altogether in some cases.
Not hard to miss those psychological “persuasions”.
