David Brooks, the conservative columnist for The New York Times and a weekly political commentator for The PBS NewsHour, has authored several books, including The Road to Character (2015), which made a number of bestseller lists. His latest book, The Second Mountain: The Quest for a Moral Lifewas published in April 2019.

Though I differ from David Brooks in our political bent I find his mountain metaphor, and particularly the loving pragmatism of “relationism,” attractive and substantive. It’s possible a middle path such as this might be optimal as the Adventist Church pushes through the jungle/swamp/desert.
