Developing News on the Wildfires in the Northern California Conference

Editor’s Note: The following statements from the Northern California Conference regarding the Lightning Complex Fires were published to the NCC website on August 20 and 21. Read the full statements below, and check the NCC’s website for new information on this developing story:

August 21, 2020 — 11:00 a.m.

Although about 25 wildfires are raging in the Northern California Conference (NCC) territory, as of August 21, 2020, no churches, schools, or properties within the NCC territory have been damaged. Moreover, all pastors, teachers, and conference staff who were ordered to evacuate did so safely.

“We are closely monitoring the situation,” said NCC President Marc Woodson. “Although some of our staff and church members have been displaced, we thank God for keeping them safe.”

Some residents in the Healdsburg area have been evacuated, including one pastor’s family, and reports from the area are still coming in. However, Rio Lindo Adventist Academy is currently not in danger, and it is outside the evacuation warning zone. “We are safe,” reported science teacher Denise Tonn on Thursday night. “Lots of air support arrived today for the first time, and it was sure good to see them! Best air show ever!”

Out of an abundance of caution, Angwin, Deer Park, and all surrounding communities are under a mandatory evacuation order. However, there is currently no threat to Angwin or Deer Park from the LNU Lighting Complex Fire. According to the Angwin Volunteer Fire Department, the most concerning fire is the Aetna Fire, but it is still posing no threat to the communities on the hill.

Laurie Trujillo, NCC communication and development director, evacuated from her home in Angwin. “For the last two years, the Angwin community and Pacific Union College have been preparing for the inevitable,” she said. “When the order came to evacuate, it was out of an abundance of caution since the fire line was still far enough away, and there was no immediate threat. However, it would only take a shift in the wind, and the situation could drastically change.”

Trujillo noted that last year a three-mile shaded firebreak was built on the prominent ridge between Pope Valley and Angwin, running from Howell Mountain Road to the Las Posadas State Forest. Support for the project came from the local community and state and local governmental agencies. “The firebreak was built to give Angwin and the surrounding communities a fighting chance,” she said.

NCC pastors, educators, and members are keeping the conference informed about the fires in their areas. “The SCU Lightning Complex fire is nipping at the outskirts of Tracy,” reported Tracy church Pastor Tyler Kraft on Thursday night. “All official word has been that the town is safe, but there is an evacuation in one zone on the edge of the city limits.”

Vacaville church member Rhonda Driver drove by her church property late Thursday afternoon. “Our Vacaville Adventist Church [facility] is still standing! Praise the Lord!” she reported.

To keep people informed, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) provides twice-daily incident updates, typically at 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. Visit www.fire.ca.gov/incidents for maps and other information.

“At this time, we ask our brothers and sisters in Christ to join us as we pray for the continued protection of all, including those on the frontlines who are battling the wildfires,” said Woodson. “We claim the promise in Deuteronomy 31:8 ‘The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.’”

Actually that was 7:00 this morning. If I had the brains I would post the 5:00 update. In essence Angwin, Deer Park, St. Helena Hospital are pretty much out of harms way. But, other people and animals north of Berryessa are not. My heart hurts for them especially the animals. They just don’t know where to go. I’m kinda a animal lover

Just going by what this site posted “Last Updated 08/21/20 4:51 PM”
Thanks for citing caution.

As the anniversary of a vision of fire comes, it is worthy of our consideration:

Last Friday morning [August 24, 1906], just before I awoke, a very impressive scene was presented before me. I seemed to awake from sleep but was not in my home. From the windows I could behold a terrible conflagration. Great balls of fire were falling upon houses, and from these balls fiery arrows were flying in every direction. It was impossible to check the fires that were kindled, and many places were being destroyed. The terror of the people was indescribable. {Mar 210.4}

I was instructed that destruction hath gone forth upon cities. The word of the Lord will be fulfilled. Isaiah 29:19-24 was repeated. I dared not move, not knowing where I was. I cried unto the Lord, What does it mean? These representations of destruction were repeated. Where am I? "In scenes I have represented that which will be; but warn My people to cease from putting their trust in men who are not obedient to my warnings and who despise My reproof, for the day of the Lord is right upon the world when evidence shall be made sure. Those who have followed the voices that would turn things upside down will themselves be turned where they cannot see, but will be as blind men.{11MR 361.2}

Well first of all PUC is not exactly in a city or even very close to one. And second, EGW actually picked the PUC location so it appears maybe God gave her bad info because she was shown the location by God

Judgment begins at the House of God. The Review once burned when it was out of the will of God. So do not take any consolation that PUC is not in a city like San Francisco, which is blazing, when the time comes for endtime events to happen.

Just adding context to your post.

Thank you. I appreciate your noting the context, but i do not believe that we pay enough attention to the warnings given because we limit them to a certain context. We are in danger of missing the magnitude of possibilities by limiting the context.

Not trying to minimize your post or Gods warnings. Just saying the current fire is not approaching PUC but very rural ranches and land. So it would seem if as EGW talked about fire destroying cities this might not be exactly a warning to the wicked unless of course the ranchers who are growing beef are wicked.

I did not take you comment to be minimizing my post. Hope that I did not give that impression. It is my hope that it does not consume PUC or get near it.

Read this morning that " not one in twenty whose names are registered upon the church books are prepared to close their earthly history, and would be as verily without God and without hope in the world as the common sinner" {ChS 41.2}

In the context of my personal Bible studies that identifies the Judgment Hours of the dead (22 October 1844-22 February 1928) and of the living (14 October 1929-14 February 2013) that was followed by 7 years of waiting and thus, knowing that we are in the final sealing time, I am watching as Christ commanded lest I will be caught unprepared like the 5 foolish virgins.

I shout the warnings when I see them and hope that someone will hear and pause… to be prepared rather than to assume that all is well, like those who say to Christ “Lord Lord have we not…” only to find out too late too late that they were living apart from the Holy Spirit.

(Went along good with this mornings Sabbath schools lesson)

Well I confess that I must be one of those common sinners she was talking about cuz I know I’m not one of the perfected LGT’s

Praise God that He has a way to tell us of our need to revaluate ourselves and make the needed changes while there is still time to do it.

GT tried to explain the LGT dispute to me, but I don’t remember the specifics. In fact, the author of an article that just locked down last week said in his closing comment that he had expected that his article would have started a discussion on that very topic.

The Lord is taking charge of finishing His work and He will take care of all the things that are causing doubts and division.

Are you safe from fire and whatnot at your location?

Henry, do you ever get tired of throwing firebrands? Or are you just a vengeance mongering bible student? :joy::joy::joy:

Henry, I have been thinking about what you said when you said the House of God. How do you define the House of God. Is it a people set apart by religion or is it people set aside by a sinless life? Please help me understand your definition

History of head injury. Temporal lobe epilepsy vs. Hypnopompic?

John 10:16 “And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, [and] one shepherd.”

So then it’s not a theological set of holdings? It’s just a people. I know the verse you gave but your writings indicate theological positions. How do you sort that out?
