Does What We Believe Save Us?

(George Tichy) #141

I think it’s time for you to be locked up for another 30 days… :innocent:

Solitary, just bread & water?

I did say taught how to love… not just vaguely go do it. That is the most pressing and practical need of human life.

NT teaching/ doctrine centered on practically living out faith like this, in love, individually and especially in community. Again, it’s relational! If you think that parsing doctrine and taking to task all who don’t have your take on doctrine and the gospel is the answer, then have at it. Sounds like a modern gnosticism based on “propositonal truth.”

It’s little more than trolling by him, George. Oy!

Doctrine is the garbage of religion. It doesn’t have to be but it is. Jesus boiled it all down to twenty words, + or -. That in itself should answer the question if people want to be brutally honest with themselves. The problem is that people do not. compounded volumes of rules, beliefs, etc., give a certain class of people comfort. Just look at the Jewish nation at the time of Christ. Nothing has changed between then and now. The fact that we have so many xian denominations, or even that we have 28 fundamental beliefs plus countless guidelines and books delineating what we should believe and how we should act speaks volumes about how far off track xians and Adventists are.

That’s not you teaching. That’s leaving you totally out of the picture.

Uhhh, how many words in the Gospels are colored RED?

Is it leaving out all apostles, prophets, preachers & bible teachers?

(Johnny Carson) #149

Ahhh… when an unpleasant truth is encountered, equivocate. But it’s difficult to avoid the truth of the matter that Jesus boiled the entirety of scripture and his own words to “Love God and love man. This is the sum total of the law.”

(Johnny Carson) #150

Yup, painful as that truth may be to those who want to somehow earn their own way. There is no such thing as an unholy triad of God, the individual, and any other person, no matter much they want to insert themselves into the vertical relationship between the Creator and his created individual.

Anyone else noticing an increasing trend in anti-works, anti-effort, anti-cooperation in the salvation process that smacks of Calvinist heresy?

This is monergism.

Why does Jesus stand at a door and knock? Why does He have to?

What does Phil 2:12 say?

What about take up your cross?
What about as U have received Jesus, walk in Him?
What about Him being an author & finisher of OUR faith?
What about He who has begun a work will finish it.
What about taking every thought captive unto obedience?
What about repent?

This smacks of fantasy fairy dust grace delusion.

Is what you believe real to you? If it is than it does save you because you believe it is real. If you don’t believe it is real does that condemn you?

Christ died for all of mankind, all the ungodly, whether they believe or not.
Rom 5:6
For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

The fee Gift that saves us is for the taking.

Rom 5:18

Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

We are justified freely.

So receive righteousness as a gift and we receive Grace as a Gift By Faith alone.

[Eph 2:8

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

So yes,… by what we believe in… Saves us ABSOLUTELY!
