From Our Desk: Books We're Enjoying

From Carmen Lau, board chair:

In preparation for leading a group of 17 Spectrum spiritual seekers walking St. Cuthbert’s Way in Scotland, I read Hunting for Magic Eels: Recovering an Enchanted Faith in a Skeptical Age (2021) by Richard Beck. I highly recommend it.  I’ve been challenged by the book’s ending, where Beck refers to Father Zosima from Dostoyevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov.

How is Matthew Vollmer related to Nancy Vollmer Wilson, wife of Ted Wilson? She also grew up in a small town in Western North Carrolina.

Matthew writes about his Uncle Ted in this book.

Maybe a good explanation for why I am a vegetarian (whole foods, plant based) is because it’s good for the planet in every way, and has nothing to do with joining a peculiar religion. Attracts more thoughtful adherants too. That said, the books being reviewed sound great!
