From Northern Caribbean University:

Harvard Professor, David Williams has urged members of the 2009 graduating class of Northern Caribbean University to go out into the world to solve problems and minister to the needs of the society. Professor Williams was the guest speaker at the Graduating Class Presentation held on Thursday, March 12 at the university gymnatorium, under the theme, Strategically Placed, Divinely Enabled.

Dr. Williams who is Professor of Public Health at the Harvard School of Public Health, Professor of African and African-American Studies and an Affiliate of the Sociology Department at Harvard University, motivated the eager members of the graduating class who were arrayed in academic regalia for the event. He urged the class members to never forget where they come from and the persons who helped them get where they are. “You are an elite group,” he stated, “and unto whom much is given, much is required.”

The class members signalled their agreement through applause, as the engaging speaker stated that as they reach this new milestone in their lives, they should see it as an opportunity to serve. “Every advantage is a call to be a servant to your fellowman.” He continued, “God is calling on each of you to serve and to fulfil your purpose where he places you”.

Emphasis was placed on children - the most vulnerable in any society. The Harvard Professor spoke of the difficulties faced by some youth in their early days, pointing to the negative health and social effects that these early adversities can lead to. He advised the prospective graduates to become mentors to children and to positively impact the lives of these youth who will eventually become leaders of the nation.

Professor Williams encouraged the students to look to God for the fulfilment of all their needs and for the courage and strength to carry out their purpose. “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and He (God) will give you everything you need to make a difference in the world.”
