As one who has a daughter soon to be 18, this vote is especially a bitter pill. I appreciate Chris Blake's emphasis on social justice, relationships, and pursuing "church" that is after Christ, not an "institution."
This is what I hope she "catches" from her connection with church, relationships, loving members, less focus on the "do not's" and an openness to her talents and gifts.
I am so proud of Foster, his posting here and his attempt to introduce the clarifying amendment. How the church maneuvers through the next five years will be telling. Will the headship proponents try to legislate? Will the Priesthood of All Believers be able to survive?
The honesty of this thread has been a salve for a deep sadness and mourning. In fact, I couldn't even read this report on Day Four until now.
I'm glad I returned to read it. Foster's response has been especially helpful. He studied for himself and saw through all the strategies to shut out his amendment. Yet he is sticking around. He is example Number One of the love Chris is talking about in this report.
And Melissa Howell from Carmichael. I see the spark in her eye and through her words. Thank you both, Chris and Melissa, for insisting that this church is big enough for all of us--even we "radventists."
