Spectrum's Updated Commenting Policy Goes Into Effect Monday

As far as I can tell from @JaredWright’s comments, Loungers are ‘locked in’. IOW no loss of privilege for lack of participation.

Trust God.

True, Chuck…sometimes even the online personalities “click”.

What do you/have you written? I am more the “business oriented” writer within the copywriting world with my specialty being scripts for videos.

I would love a SDA satire play…sooo much to work with. Doug B. could give us material to work with that would rival Saturday N. Live! lol

I agree that there is enough material to do something with it but it would take some organization. But it could be done.

Thanks, Kenn. Sounds good. That means we can be “drop-in” loungers, rather than permanent residents.

At first I was keeping up with the whole topic, but other responsibilities intervened…

ADIOS! It is really sad that Spectrum has capitulated (given in) to who knows who and come up with such a restrictive policy for bloggers. Compare it to the policy for bloggers that Mr. Putin has in Russia. What has happened? What is driving this? There are over 450+ responses to Spectrum’s new policy for comments to this policy and the majority do not like it. I read all of the comments, and the policy several times and as a result, have decided that this is the last time I post a comment on Spectrum. It is so obvious to me that this new policy is restrictive and basically tells me that my input, reflections and ideas are not wanted by this magazine. I am really disappointed and sad!

Even though my time blogging was short do not regret the time and the feedback that I received from so many readers. The comments were often better than the articles! The Space for comments in Spectrum is something I will miss greatly as it gave me creative room to express my thoughts and reactions. For me the comments section was like a small haven, a sanctuary, for freedom to express ideas freely and feel the pulse of emotions on a variety of topics.

FYI
1 August 2014
Russia enacts ‘draconian’ law for bloggers
The law also gives the government new grounds to press charges against bloggers, including “defamation” and “inciting hatred.”
“The objective of those laws is to block the Russian Internet from the rest of the world,” says Anton Nosik, a popular blogger, “and to shut down the biggest foreign social networks, to block access to foreign social networks for Russian users, and to establish control over networks that are physically based in Russia.” One key provision of the law, which is scheduled to take effect in August, would require bloggers to register with the government if their blogs receive more than 3,000 hits a day.
Registered bloggers would then be treated like mass media and required to certify the factual accuracy of the information in their blogs, but they wouldn’t have the same protections and privileges as other journalists. One of the leading sponsors of the law, Irina Yarovaya, made it clear what lawmakers are aiming for — an end to anonymity on the Internet in Russia.
“In principle, anonymity is always deception,” she said in an interview earlier this year. “It’s a wish to mislead someone. I can’t see any reason to raise lying to [the status of] a human virtue or an understanding of what freedom is.”

Hi, WWW
If this topic comes up in its own thread I am very interested.
I had some non SDA books and some history books on the subject.
Non EGW ways to understand Revelation need to be discuses in the “dark”. (Lounge?) Maybe the lounge is necessary. The last pastor, I talked Revelation with, did not want his name out.

No! Don’t go! Your posts have upped the level of conversation here. @JaredWright give him that one-way ticket.

Sam, I appreciate your perspective of the new Spectrum policies. When you say the majority of bloggers don’t like it, maybe it is more correct that the majority dont understand its purpose. New ways always disrupt humans. Before to much criticism is applied, we should give it a try.

Spectrum and its Board have given us all a voice which I appreciate. They are on the side of people and their individual views of SDA theology and policies. Let’s back off and give it a try.:grinning:

You can’t do that!

If you enjoyed your “short” stay, give yourself a chance and stick around for 30 days, a trial period. Should you not like the new format after the trial period, then quit. Who knows, maybe the majority of us would quit too. But the least we can do is give it a chance. Deal?

Besides, we really enjoyed your contribution and followed your posts with interest.

Yes, 2humBaby, you were programmed. Massive indoctrination. But there is a cure. The Gospel is 100% guaranteed to free people from legalism and religiosity.

And EGW didn’t approve of clapping in church. Or jewelry, meat, alcohol, spices, sports, dancing, cheese, etc. I’m sure there is more. Yikes!

Remember when TW gave his 2010 acceptance speech? He admonished the audience for applauding (at least twice) and asked them not to do that.

Just get on with it and send in the request.

Thank you fellow bloggers for encouraging me to stay a while and try the new policy for bloggers…Change is hard, so I will just have to adjust. I was so sad, I’m slightly more hopeful now…Thanks for your patience!

Your comment really got to me. Thanks for your kind words! I’m “a prodigal blogger…” on the rebound!

Sam, it is not meant to be restricting in that way. Actually, most of the ones who comment here are in the lounge which will eventually be the main blogging site, as I see it. I only went over there a few hours ago and saw no difference at all. Check it out as your comments are valuable whether you’re a heretic or a dyed-in-the wool fundamentalist. :innocent:

As I’ve told others your kind words touched me and I’ve “repented” and am no longer a backslidden Spectrum blogger. I will trey to adjust and behave myself and “hang in there”…thank you for being patient with me…

Well, it’s Sunday evening in California. I asked to come in to the Lounge, but no success yet.

While I want to give this change a chance, my current perception is that the change seems mysterious and exclusive. I hope my perception can change.

So, while I can, I want to say I’ve been enriched by the insights many of you have shared. So long…
