Ahh. I enjoyed this, partly because I gave a talk a few times on the very topics you mentioned at the end. What was smelling the incense and oil like, what smells were present in the stable at Jesus’ birth, what were the smells related to the events leading up to the crucifixion and beyond. What does it mean for God to smell us as “the aroma of Christ.” Much to ponder in this concept. Thank-you for reminding me.
Much of our memory is triggered by smell. We can recall an event, an object by getting a hint of a familiar smell.
