The most valuable take-away from this fiasco would be to never let this document or anything remotely like it to see the light of day at any other gathering of Adventists – GC or elsewhere. It is time for the GC leadership to acknowledge that forced uniformity (what some call “unity”) and forced conformity (what some call “compliance”) should have no place in the SDA Church – and move on to other matters. Let the same Holy Spirit who was asked to guide the actions on Monday be trusted to guide the actions regarding Women’s Ordination, wherever and whenever such ordinations are considered. Time to drop the mic and move on!!
@george tichy You have my vote, George. Your viewpoint is aligned with mine on numerous issues often enough so as to raise suspicions that we are somehow related way back in the dust and cobwebs of our respective family histories.
Okay, so my one response will be spent here:
I laughed so hard I nearly choked, after which I was nearly overcome, however briefly, with a deep sense of guilt!
How do we go about beginning the push towards term limits for ALL voted GC positions…ie. dept heads? One term should suffice. More than that, and folk begin to believe that they are truly more holy, more deserving than the rest. That should also go for Division, Union and Conference positions as well. Also, once you have served, you are not eligible to serve in that position again. But go back to a field pastoral assignment. It would eliminate a lot of politicking that goes on instead of spreading the good news and caring for the flock, which is what they claim to have been called to do.
This report is deeply troubling my heart. What I see is totally destructive. The sentence “Trust is good, control is better” is said to stem from Lenin. (But Wikipedia says, that it is not written in his works.)
This principle has shown to bee totally destructive. But the GC wants to follow it.
We so long critisised the Roman Catholic Church - and are becoming like it.
When are we going to elect our own Pope?
We are errecting a top-down leadership in Roman Catholic manner.
Really really sorry and speechless…
Sam Geli, I totally agree with you! I was thinking what would Jesus say about this whole situation. Then I recalled what He said about/to the Scribes and Pharisees in Matthew chapter 23 Is this what is happening in our churchheadship? I mean this generally, not pointing out someone particularly!
Mat 23:24-36 Ye blind guides, that strain out the gnat, and swallow the camel!
25Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full from extortion and excess. 26Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup and of the platter, that the outside thereof may become clean also.
27Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness. 28Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but inwardly ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
29Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and garnish the tombs of the righteous, 30and say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we should not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
31Wherefore ye witness to yourselves, that ye are sons of them that slew the prophets. 32Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
33Ye serpents, ye offspring of vipers, how shall ye escape the judgment of hell? 34Therefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: some of them shall ye kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city:
35that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous unto the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom ye slew between the sanctuary and the altar.
36Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.
Patti, we should have our DNAs compared!..
