"I think it shows as people we can be united," Pastor Trevor Kinlock of Calvary Seventh-Day Adventist Church said, adding that neighbors and churches helped brighten a corner in an area of the city that receives bad press on poverty and crime.
About 60 members of Calvary Adventist came in shifts starting at 6:30 a.m. Saturday to serve food, Kinlock said.
"Churches shouldn't only preach a good gospel, we should live a good gospel," Kinlock said. "Jesus fed the hungry."
