For Pastor Jan Paulsen, world president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, taking care of the environment is a Christian issue.
With these video op-eds, Elder Paulsen seems to be articulating a fresh approach to Seventh-day Adventist witness in the contemporary world. It looks like those conversations that he held around the world with Adventist young people were more than about mere talk.
He seems to have caught the zeitgeist: that Adventists crave leadership which opens up space - both theologically and politically - to convert faith into action.
And it seems to me that this space for action is not reactionary, merely motivated by fear of the future. Instead this creation of space seems to be a prophetic call for more engagement with the realities of life - not to serve self, but to preserve what we share with our neighbors.
