The “fundamental beliefs” (Adventist Creed) . No organization should be allowed to make any requirement for membership that Jesus did not make for salvation. Basically I view most of the “fundamentals” are man made rules for membership into the Seventh-day Adventist church.
What requirements do you see that Jesus made for salvation?
Interesting point!
I know of none , But the closest that comes to it is Matthew 22 37-40.
sorry, misprint. that’s Matthew 22: 37 -40
Thanks for your response.
I don’t see this as having to do with salvation. Salvation is not about commandments. Jesus was answering the Pharisees about which was the greatest commandment. The Pharisees had asked a series of questions, trying to trick Jesus.
True, but that is the closest I know of. Would love to know what “salvation” is and not according to a lot of man made doctrines. The Lord’s prayer is my best answer. "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. That tells me that our will down here must be like God’s will is in heaven, and Jesus’ answer to the Pharisees seems to His will in heaven is LOVE. It must be the same on earth. Love, and that means Character.
What about…
John 11:25-26
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life.[a] Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?
I find it interesting that you never mentioned believing in Jesus’ life, death and resurrection.
Thank you, Tom Lemon!
I have decided to follow Jesus; no turning back. No turning back.
I will not follow “man” and his edicts. I follow Christ–whether He leads forward with my denominational community, or whether He or veers away as they march in stock unity demanding coercion and compliance with their human demands shrouded in “prayer.”
Thank you for the summary and the doc, insightful and thought provoking in the positive. Something we need more of our brethren to do.
The question in my mind is do we as a people want to wallow in our stubbornness and wait for another 130 years?
I would add that many in our church do not know about this or understand that the events unfolding have similar threads as described below. Quote below is from the PDF:
An unwillingness to yield up preconceived opinions, and
to accept this truth, lay at the foundation of a large share of the
opposition manifested at Minneapolis against the Lord’s message
through Brethren (E.J.) Waggoner and (A.T.) Jones. By exciting
that opposition Satan succeeded in shutting away from our
people, in a great measure, the special power of the Holy Spirit
that God longed to impart to them.
First I want to mention that I barely began laying out the context of ‘1888’ that proved the time was ripe for what the SDAs could have had. Another tidbit:
Thomas Edison and Nikolai Tesla were competing over ‘DC’ power distribution or ‘AC’ for public utility. (Edison publicly electrocuted stray dogs and even an elephant to scare people away from Tesla’s ‘AC’ current systems. Thanks to Edison, ‘AC’ electrocution was then used for ‘capital punishment’.) Mark Twain was fascinated by electricity and science and knew both.
Mark Twain had gone broke trying to fund the failed ‘Paige Typesetting Machine’ and his wife refused to let him declare bankruptcy, so he traveled the world to earn cash, and became very well known as a stage personality. Near the end of a world tour, his favorite daughter died at his home in America. Few people realize that Mark Twain had ‘dark writings’ that challenged God bitterly, and essentially voiced the questions about God that many other humans could easily empathize with. Questions that God was just beginning to answer through Waggoner and Jones and Ellen, circa 1888. . . so, the SDA leaders that discouraged Ellen, Waggoner and Jones really, really, really messed up ! From many directions the world was ripe for what the SDA church was given BEFORE 3 world wars, Stalin, Pol Pot, Hitler, Rwanda, Yugoslavia . . . .
There will be a ‘last generation’ that will finally realize that sinners are ‘accepted (by the Father) in the Beloved’ (Christ) so that they can all just ‘chill out’ and enjoy God’s company. however they can. And the more they do enjoy it, the more like God they will naturally become. Strange that people should accept ‘demon possession’ as being a real possibility . . . but not ‘God possession’ ? More than once the Bible says we can’t ‘change our spots’, that our righteousness is as ‘filthy rags’, that our spider’s ‘webs’ won’t ‘cover us’. . . .
So, it clearly is not up to the ‘last generation’ to change, clean and clothe themselves, but up to the One who alone can ‘Create in them a clean heart’ ‘and renew a right Spirit within’ them. If God wants to give them the ‘perfect character’ of Christ, for free, just for ‘beholding’ Christ, then why should they refuse it ?
Instead, people tend to fear the ‘Good News’, and take comfort in the bad.
Why ? That’s a real puzzle !
