I have been an Adventist my whole life. I am a deacon at my Clarkston SDA church that is one of the five deacons that is on the schedule for being deacon in charge. I am a greeter once a month.
I recruit people to deliver the church service’s children’s story, as well as delivering it myself periodically. I have helped with vacation Bible school at my church for two consecutive years. I enjoy delivering stories and participating in VBS because I like children.
It is partly my love for children that makes me adamantly pro-life. I was disturbed when I discovered our 1992 abortion guidelines, which said that the final choice of whether or not to abort the unborn child was the mother’s decision. I do not believe this position is Biblical or moral. I have requested Biblical justification for the 1992 guidelines, but have not received any satisfactory reply.
I discovered that my own North Pacific Union Conference started a process to amend these guidelines. I sent thank you letters to my Union, as well as the conference and church which set this process in motion.
Just recently, my pastor gave me a copy of the draft of the statement which could replace the 1992 guidelines. I read it slowly, wondering if it would be like the 1992 guidelines, which I find condones abortion. I was ecstatic to discover the new statement was overtly pro-life.
I found that the copy of that statement was only on this Spectrum website, which I appreciate. I signed up so I could participate in the comment section, mainly to be a voice in favor of the new abortion statement. While I disagreed with most of the commenters, who seem to be against the new statement and in favor of the 1992 guidelines, I find that we have been polite to each other. I enjoy talking to fellow commenters. I hope to read other articles and contribute more to the comment section in the future.
